Addressing NDA’s Grand Ludhiana Maha Rally, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today slammed Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on his party’s stand on Afzal Guru issue. He asked, if Punjab’s boy was hanged within 24 hours after his mercy petition, why not Afzal Guru?
“Congress Raj has gifted long queues to this nation. Queues for food, queues for gas connection, queues for admission, queues for everything. And how shameful that, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi yesterday said ‘there is one queue for implementing death penalty too, and Afzal Guru is in that queue. When his time would come, he will be hanged’. How ridiculous! Never before have we heard that even for hanging a person, there is a queue. What can be more unfortunate than such statements for the country? Congress is making the people fool. Out of 29 persons who are on death row, cases of 26 have been processed by your government Mr. Rahul Gandhi, and only three cases including that of Afzal Guru are pending. Afzal Guru’s case is nothing but example of votebank politics of Delhi and Central governments. The fact is that, government is indulging in votebank politics and hanging Guru does not suit its interests. As Rahul Gandhi has raised this issue on Punjab’s soil, I want to ask, when General Vaidya was killed in Pune by a Khaltistan movement boy from Punjab, government run by Rahul Gandhi’s family had rejected that boy’s mercy petition in 15 minutes calling cabinet meeting and he was hanged to death within 24 hours. I want to ask, if that boy was from Punjab, there was no problem with your votebank and therefore you hanged him and Afzal Guru is important for your vote bank and therefore he has been protected. Why not same treatment to Afzal? Its because of votebank politics.”
Rahul Gandhi while addressing a rally at Mohali in Punjab last evening had said Afzal Guru was twenty second on the list of those to be hanged. “There is a huge line and there are others before him. When his number (turn) comes, he will be hanged.”
