There are no full stops in politics, says Modi
Ahmedabad, 17 May, 2009

Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Narendra Modi today addressed a bunch of reporters at Ahmedabad Airport for the first time after the NDA faced a defeat in the 15th Lok Sabha elections. Denying that the party was projecting him as a future PM he said, “I never called myself as PM in waiting. My stand has always been clear that I am from Gujarat and will keep working for the state.”

Reacting to Janata Dal-United leader and National Democratic Alliance convenor Sharad Yadav’s comment that the projection of Modi as a candidate for the top job was a mistake, the Gujarat chief minister said “Modi as future prime ministerial candidate of the BJP was a media projection only”.

“In democracy people’s verdict is final. This time people have mandated us to serve the nation sitting in the opposition again and the Congress and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) have been given the mandate to rule. We accept the verdict humbly” he said.

The BJP leader, however, refused to comment on L.K. Advani’s offer of stepping down from the post of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

“Parliamentary board (of the party) will decide. He (Advani) has proposed to resign taking moral responsibility, now the board will decide,” he added.

Modi also went on to that the BJP’s poll defeat won’t let him and his party work actively towards strengthening itself. He said, “There are no full stops in politics. People’s verdict is the final say and we accept the verdict. NDA will still continue to help the people of the country and raise their voice as an opposition.”

Modi also said that the Congress benefited hugely in states where it was in direct fight with it’s former allies.

On Gujarat verdict he said, the party has got more seats. Five seats were won by the Congress with around 10,000 margin. Two seats that were responsibility of Gujarat:Diu-Daman and Selvas-Dadra-Nagar-Haveli are with BJP now. The party was trying to win these seats since long ago.
