Six-laning,flyovers construction on SG Highway after monsoon

The Government of Gujarat has decided to widen 5 km stretch of Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway between Thaltej Gurudwara and Sanand Crossroads. At present, the width of this four lane stretch is 17 meter. After six-laning, it will be 24.5 meters. This will increase the averag speed of vehicles by 10 km per hour.
The government has also planed two flyover at Iskcon circle and Sanand Crossroads. 25 meters wide and 1-km-long six-lane flyover over Iskcon Circle will cost Rs 24 crore. This flyover will have two separate lanes of 7.5 metres each for commuters heading towards Satellite and Bopal. Another 1.4-km-long flyover would be built over Sanand Cross-roads up to Sarkhej Railway Overbridge. The survey work is going on for this project. Tendering procedure will follow.
The project that has been taken up with a futuristic outlook anticipating at least 25 per cent surge in traffic in coming couple of years will be executed by the Road and Building Department of Government of Gujarat. Works on the project will start after monsoon in this year only.
S.G Highway has six lanes between Vaishno Devi Temple and Gujarat High Court. After Six laning work of the highway between Iskcon Circle and Sanand Crossroads, 13 km of 32 km-long SG Highway will be six-lane. The widening of the 2 km stretch between the High Court and the Gurudwara will be taken up later.
