Traffic cops in Ahmedabad to get blackberry mobile phones
Ahmedabad, 25 May, 2009
Ten Ahmedabad Traffic cops deployed at CG Road, Mithakhali, Navrangpura areas will get Blackberry phones under the one-month pilot project starting on May 28.
With this, a traffic police cop would be able to access data on any traffic offender whether he/she is first timer or a habitual one as the phones will be attached to the main server at the service provider Airtel’s office and the RTO.
Details about the status of the vehicle would be added to the server in the future to enable the police to know — whether a vehicle had been stolen, used in crime, involved in accidents etc.
When a cop enters the license number of an offender in the Blackberry, he will get details in Gujarati language on phone, such as his/her address and history of previous offenses. Through a small printer on waist attached to Blackberry, cops will also be able to print receipt of fine in Gujarati on the spot. This e-receipt method is already in practice at Bangalore and Delhi.
