Junagadh Zoo staff to travel Africa,Singapore for Cheetah trainingThe Government of Gujarat will send two officers of state’s forest department to Africa to study breeding of Cheetahs. Two officers, one of them, Junagadh’s Sakkarbag Zoo Superitendent, will travel to Africa next month.

The state government has also decided to send Sakkarbag Zoo’s Veterinary Officer C.N.Bhuva and Animal Keeper Salim Chauhan to Singapore next month to get training on how Cheetahs are being kept and treated in Singapore zoo.

Junagadh’s Sakkarbag zoo is India’s only zoo that possesses Cheetahs. Two pair of cheetahs had arrived at Sakkarbag zoo from Singapore last March.

Cheetahs were last seen in India in 1946. After then, around 30 cheetahs were brought to India for breeding purpose but they all couldn’t survive long here.

Sakkarbag zoo has got two pairs of cheetahs in exchange to three Asiatic lions that were earlier sent to Singapore zoo. A doctor from Singapore had accompanied cheetahs’ journey to India in a flight. Chief Minister Narendra Modi had dedicated Cheetahs last Sunday.
