Trying anything & everything for rain in Gujarat
Brahmins perform Paryanya Yagnya, group of girls sinking Shivaling in the milk

Seeking an end to the continuing dry spell, people in different parts of Gujarat are doing everything, they think can bring the rain.

At Ahmedabad’s Bahucharaji mandir, Hindu seers sat inside the buckets full of water and performed ‘Parjanya Yagya,’ a special fire ritual for rain.

In another event in the city, group of girls sank Shivaling into the milk believing that, this would kick start the monsoon. Similar act was performed at couple of Shiv mandirs in eastern Gujarat’s tribal village Kwant, South Gujarat’s Sejvad village and Kutch district’s Kotada village. At Southern Gujarat’s Sejalvad village, people brought waters from seven different wells, and sank a Shivaling for 24 hours.

In another attempt to invite the rain, 38-year-old Rajendrasinh Jadeja is standing on one foot for last three days, drinking only one glass of milk in a day at Bhiloda taluka’s Dahegamda village. Jadeja is on ‘Maunvrat.’ Large number of people visit him at Shamlnath Ashram where he is doing this ‘Tap’.

In Vadodara district’s Alampura village, a youth Samir Manubhai Patel is protesting God for not giving rain to needy farmers. He is on ‘Dharna’ at Kashivishwanath mandir in his village.

Gujarat has experienced less than 7% rain of the season this monsoon.
