Gujarat govt answers back on Sardar Sarovar National Project issue
Gandhinagar, 24 July, 2009

The Gujarat government today accused the Centre of ignoring the Narmada dam unit, saying it has failed to declare Sardar Sarovar as a national project even as it is a multi-state and multi-purpose venture.

Meanwhile, the Centre said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha that it had not received any proposal from the Gujarat government to declare the Sardar Sarovar as a national project.

Reacting to the Centre’s reply yesterday, state Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas alleged the Union government has ignored the Narmada project.

“I want to ask the Centre has it declared other projects as a national venture only after receiving proposals from the respective states,” Vyas said, adding Union government should have its own evaluation process for declaring any scheme as a national project.
