According to sources, Vadodara’s SSG hospital affiliated medical college’s dean has terminated about 20 fourth year junior doctors on strike. Suspended doctors would have to answer the notice served by the government before July 27, otherwise they will face termination. The medical students of first, second and third year are served notice for breach of rule no.26. They too have to answer the notice before July 27.
According to Principal Secretary, Health, Ravi Saxena, the Gujarat government has decided to terminate the resident doctors and will start terminating the resident doctors from Monday morning. Fourth year resident doctors will be terminated first followed by senior and newly appointed resident doctors.
The government has written to the parents of the doctors, advising them to counsel their children, who have worked hard and reached to PG level but unfortunately they are spoiling their careers at this level.
“We held several rounds of talks with the representatives of resident doctors, but they remained adamant so far, forcing us to resort to their termination,” Saxena said.
It should be noted that junior doctors are on strike for last four days demanding hike in their stipend which is already in five figure. In last three days seven children were reportedly dead due to ongoing strike.
