Deregistraion of striking junior doctors,Govt takes harshest step

Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 31 July, 2009
In a major, and the harshest possible step, the Gujarat government today deregistered 40 resident doctors who were spearheading the strike demanding a hike in stipend. The government also refused to register 377 resident doctors. The registration process happens in first and second year of PG admission. Refusing the registration also is similar to deregistration.
On respective medical college’s demand, these resident doctors were deregistered from their affiliated universities.
The deregistered doctors will not be able to register themselves again in post-graduate courses anywhere in the country.
Those deregistered/denied registration include 152 doctors of NHL medical college, 194 of BJ medical college, 31 super specialty courses students in Ahmedabad. According to information available from other sources, total 82 doctors were deregistered/denied registration in Surat and 2 in Vadodara.
This was so harsh a decision that, the Gujarat University discussed it for four hours before arriving at final conclusion.
While steps such as termination or suspension have provision of rewind button, the deregistration means completely a dead-end like situation for PG medical students.
