Mahesh Bhikhabhai Parmar, an Army Jawan from Gujarat’s Surendranagar district sacrificed his life in a thickly forested area along the line of control in North Kashmir’s frontier Kupwara district on Friday.
Sources said that Jihadi Islamic militants, suspected to be infiltrators, opened fire at troops of 12 Mahar near Hanuman post on wee hours today, killing Mahesh Parmar(belt No 4573819F) and injuring another army jawan Anaa Molie (belt no 04580208P).
After a lull for several hours, sources said, troops established a contact with the Islamic Jihadi militants near ‘Torya’ area along the sector.
The Islamic militants were fired upon by the troops, which they retaliated, triggering off an encounter. In the ensuing gun battle, two Jihadi militants were killed, they added.
The encounter was going on when reports last came in, the sources added. However, unconfirmed reports said that three Jihadi Islamic militants died during the encounter.
The army has been involved in massive combing operations along the Line of Control (LoC) along Kupwara district in the past three days during which six Islamic Jihadi militants have been gunned down and three infiltration bids from across the LoC foiled.
