World’s two aircraft giants: Airbus and Boeing along with Government of Singapore are in talks with Gujarat based SEZ to set up MRO(manufacturing, repair and operations) facilities, according to a ET Now report.

According to ET Now report, Gujarat Vittal innovation City(GVIC) and Sez spread across 2,500 acre is now in advance stage of talks with these players. This SEZ is located just 10 minutes away from Mumbai as a crow fly.

“We have been in discussion with Boing of course, the Airbus is also in talks with us. Also Singapore government is very serious about our discussions,” said Pankaj Saran, COO-designate, GVIC to ET Now. The MRO industry in India is currently valued at about 950 million dollars and expected to touch 1.17 billion dollars by 2010.

Airlines need line maintenance for their aircraft; heavy airframe and engine maintenance; also component repair and overhaul facilities. Currently, only Indian Airlines and Air India have in-house maintenance facilities but, at times, these Airlines too have to outsource maintenance to foreign companies. There is only one third-party aircraft MRO facility in India.
