The Congress party’s Gujarat unit today supported the ban imposed by the BJP government in the state on Jaswant Singh’s controversial book on Pakistan founder M A Jinnah but said this was not enough.
“Sardar Patel occupies a special place in mind of every Gujarati and any attempt to defame him needs to be condemned,” Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Siddarth Patel said.
The Narendra Modi government banned Singh’s book “Jinnah – India, Partition, Independence” last night, saying it (book) was an attempt to tarnish the image of the country’s first Home Minister Vallabhbhai Patel.
“The references to Vallabhbhai Patel as the one responsible for the partition of India in Singh’s book is nothing but distortion of historic facts,” a Congress spokesman said.
