Nominations filed: Quick details of Gujarat assembly by-polls

Today is the last day of filing nomination for Gujarat assembly by-elections scheduled to be held on September 10. Here is quick look on candidates selected by both the main parties.
Danta
Vasant Bhatol is leading worker of BJP Yuva Morcha in Banaskantha. He is son of Parthi Bhatol, a chairman of Gujarat Coperative Milk Marketing Federation. Congress candidate Nurbhai Umatiya is a Muslim. He is ex-MLA of Danta.
Jasdan
BJP candidate for Jasdan seat, Dr. Bharat Boghra became primary member of the BJP after he was selected as a candidate for Jasdan seat. BJP workers Bhupat Dabhi, Gajendra Sarvaiya and ex District Panchayat leader of opposition Devshibhai Tadhani wanted to contest the election from Jasdan on BJP ticket. Bharat Dabhi who, President of BJP’s Rajkot district OBC cell resigned soon after Boghra’s selection.
Dr. Bharat Boghra was election office incharge of sitting Congress MP Kuvarjibhai Bavaliya during Rajkot Lok Sabha election early this year. Boghra is BAMS Homeopathic doctor who runs a geening business. He is Patel by cast.
Bhavnaben Koli is daughter of Kuvarjibhai Bavaliya.
Chotila
BJP’s Chotila candidate Vashram Korani is President of Chotila Taluka Panchayat and a prominent Koli leader. Congress candidate Manoj Jinjariya is son of late Popatbhai Jinariya who was MLA on this seat.
Dhoraji
Dhoraji nagarpalika councillor Jaisukhbhai Thesia has got BJP ticket for the Dhoraji seat. Congress has selected Jayesh Radadiya, son of sitting MP Vithal Radadiya.
Kodinar
Bileshwar sugar factory Chairman Natvarsinh Vala is BJP candidate on Kodinar seat while Congress is banking on Koli candidate Dhirsinh Barad.
Dehgam
Kalyansinh Chauhan who lost Dehgam seat two times in past will be contesting the same seat again this time on BJP ticket. Congress has selected C.J.Chawda to contest this seat. Chawda was defeated on Gandhinagar assembly seat in 2007.
Sami-Harij
Bhavsinh Rathod is BJP candidate on Sami-Harij seat. In Lok Sabha poll, Bhavsinh was leading over his rival Congress candidate in Sami-Harij assembly constituency. Congress has selected young and fresh candidate-Dinesh Thakor.
7 assembly seats:What happened in Lok Sabha elections?
By-elections for seven assembly seats in Gujarat are going to be held on 10 September. Here we present some figures that show what happened on each of the assembly seats during Lok Sabha polls in last April. The figures tell, which party was leading with what margin.
Chotila – BJP was ahead
BJP candidate of Surendranagar Lok Sabha seat, Mer Laljibhai was ahead than his rival candidate Congress party’s Somabhai Patel by margin of 1645 votes in Chotila assembly area.
Jasdan – Congress was ahead
Congress candidate of Rajkot Lok Sabha seat, Kuvarjibhai Bavalia was ahead than his rival candidate BJP’s Kirankumar Bhalodia(Patel) by margin of 25 953 votes in Jasdan assembly area.
Dhoraji – Congress was ahead
Congress candidate of Porbandar Lok Sabha seat, Vitthalbhai Radadiya was ahead than his rival candidate BJP’s Mansukhbhai Khachariya by margin of 11 476 votes in Dhoraji assembly area.
Kodinar – BJP was ahead
BJP candidate of Junagadh Lok Sabha seat, Solanki Dinubhai Boghabhai was ahead than his rival candidate Congress party’s Barad Jashubhai by margin of 22 171 votes in Kodinar assembly area.
Dehgam – BJP was ahead
BJP candidate of Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha seat, Harin Pathak was ahead than his rival candidate, Congress party’s Babaria Dipakbhai by margin of 2146 votes in Dehgam assembly area.
Danta – Congress was ahead
Congress candidate of Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat, Mukesh Gadhvi was ahead than his rival candidate, BJP’s Haribhai Chaudhary by margin of 22 709 votes in Danta assembly area.
Sami – BJP was ahead
The assembly election is being held according to old delimitation, however Lok Sabha election was held according to new delimitation. Due to massive difference between two, we can’t produce a result in this case, however, BJP was leading in Chanasma and Radhanpur both the constituencies that form Sami assembly.
Detail schedule of the by-elections
The Election Commission has announced that by-elections to 20 assembly seats spread over seven states, would be held on September 10.
The polls for Gujarat’s Chotila, Jasdan, Dhoraji, Kodinar, Dehgam, Sami and Danta assembly seats will be held on September 10. The counting will be only four days after the election on September 14.
Nominations for these seats close on August 24, scrutiny next day and withdrawals allowed up to August 27.
According to the poll schedule, notification would be issued on August 17. Last date for filing nomination.
