Surendranagar Collectorate bans commercial Navratri
Surendranagar, DeshGujarat, 19 September, 2009

In a bid to promote sheri-garba (street garba) and avoid incidents eve-teasing, the Surendranagar collector has banned commercial Navratri in the district consequently for the second year. This means, any organizer can’t restrict entry on the bases of pass or ticket.
According to district collector, a number of groups had made an appeal for a ban on commercialization of dandiya in the district.
Last year, two districts of Gujarat; Surendranagar and Sabarkantha had banned commercial Navratri.
This year, while Surendranagar administration has continued to follow its last year decision, the Sabarkantha district office has not issued any such notification.
It should be mentioned here that year by year, Navratri is becoming too much commercialized in the cities. Until last year, entry of ladies in all major Navratri events was completely free in Vaodara, but this year, United Way has started issuing Rs. 100 ticket for girls.
