On IIM Ahmedabad road, bikers gang throws challenge to police

A gang consisting of about 50 to 70 bikers literally throws a challenge to Ahmedabad police on IIM road for last two nights. The police has not been successful so far either to control this new type of menace or to arrest even a single member of the gang.

As the Navratri festival is on and Vibrant Gujarat Garba Mahotsav organized nearby, this gang of several bikers shows bike-stunts on IIM road near AMA complex daily between 10 pm to 1 am. They ride their bikes speedily on one wheel. They also put their main stand down while driving to create sparks. They horn loudly and ride in group to show their presence. Some cars also join this on-road stunt show. Some youths come out of the window of their car and shout loudly while driving very rough.

To watch the stunts and speed-biking, over four to five hundred youths do gather around AMA complex on IIMA road every night. This makes the whole road dangerous and unfriendly for single girls or regular commuters. About six accidents have already happened in last couple of days.

The bikers gang not only performs stunts and drives riskily but also harass the commuters including the girls.

A group of bikers was seen on Tuesday night following a girl who was on her two wheeler. The bikers shouted loudly throughout the road and followed a girl till Vastrapur lake.

Police strikes the road daily at around 12:00 am, when the show enters into second phase. The bikers throw open challenge by showing indecent gestures to policemen who are very few to control them. The bikers hide themselves in the dark feeding streets and appear again when police vehicle goes away.

On Wednesday night at around 12:30, the police had to closed one lane of IIM road from Andhajan Mandal circle to Polytechnic cross road.

This was done to control the menace of bikers gang. The police also lathicharged several bikers. However the main culprits were not caught or touched as they had smartly left the place.
