80% work of Sabarmati Riverfront completed, claims AMC

Ahmedabad’s ambitious Sabarmati Riverfront project is 80% complete according to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) Commissioner I.P.Gautam and Deputy Municipal Commissioner Dilip Mahajan. According to them, the project will be completed in December-2010.

“So far the AMC has spent Rs 552 crore for this project. Of this R 421 crore were spent on construction, while rest of the amount was spent on administrative expenses and interest payment. Most of the work of the walk way, drainage line and retaining wall has been completed in 10.5 km long stretch between Subhash bridge and Vasna. At this juncture the work is going on to connect the drainage line with the related pumping stations,” said Gautam and Mahajan.

“A new 168 hector land would be reclaimed through this project. Of this only 13.61 hector land would be auctioned to commercial developers, while 7.66% land would be auctioned for residential purpose. Rest of the land would be utilized for public good,” they added.
