“It is believed that Modhera Surya Mandir’s main Murti was rescued and shifted by people of Vadnagar during Islamic advent. It is further believed that the same idol of Sun God is present in Vadnagar town even now. If this is true, then the idol should be brought back to the Modhera Sun Mandir with a grand procession. Of course, this should be done after proper verification of facts by historians, archaeologists and experts,” Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said today speaking at book launch function in Ahmedabad.
Launching a photographic book ‘Vadnagar:Virasatno Tasvir Vaibhav’ Chief Minister Modi further stated: “there is another well-known Sun Mandir in Konark, but it also doesn’t have an murti of Sun God. We should bring back Sun God’s murti in Modhera Mandir if possible.”
The photographic book ‘Vadnagar:Virasatno Tasvir Vaibhav’ by India Today’s Principal Photographer Shailesh Rawal contains a chapter on Vadnagar’s Sun God murti.
Vadnagar is hometown of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
India Today journalist Uday Mahurkar, Gujarat Samachar columnist Jay Vasavda, poet Ankit Trivedi delivered their speech on this occasion.
