Modi signs memorandum demanding Cow as national animal

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today signed a memorandum that demands to declare – cow as the national animal.
Modi was offered to sign a memorandum by Shri P.K.Lehri, ex Chief Secretary of Gujarat who is now President of Vishwamangal Gau Gram Yatra’s Gujarat chapter. Lehri invited Chief Minister Modi to grace a function to welcome the Gau Gram Yatra in Ahmedabad on 20th December. Modi accepted the invitation and promised to remain present in the function.
A memorandum that Modi signed would be submitted to the President of India in January, 2010. Four major demands made in the proposal to the President are:
1. Declaration – cow as the National Animal.
2. Formulation of laws to preserve various breeds of Indian cows and to ban the cow slaughter.
3. Provision of separate ministry to handle the issues related to cow.
4. Promotion of Indigenous cow protection movements to save Jana, Jala, Janvar, Jungle, Jeeva.
