Bharatiya Janata Party has retained the Chotila assembly seat.

Young and unmarried, BJP’s Bharatbhai Khorani, son of late BJP MLA Vashrambhai Khorani today won the Chotila assembly seat with margin of 22368 votes defeating his nearest rival candidate Shiv Sena motivated candidate Shamjibhai Chauhan(actually an Independent candidate because Shiv Sena didn’t give its symbol to fight the election in this case). Congress’s Niratben Dhoriya, sister of sitting Congress MP Kunvarjibhai Bavaliya trailed at third place.

The final result is BJP candidate Bharatbhai secured – 49376 votes, Shiv Sena motivated Shamjibhai secured – 27008 votes and Congress’s Niratben Dhoriya third with – 24333 votes.

Bharatbhai was leading from the first round only during the counting and he continuously left behind his rivals at the end of all 18 rounds of counting.

Elected and jubilant Bharatbhai Khorani would be the youngest of all MLAs in Gujarat Vidhansabha. Bharatbhai is student of B.Ed college in Rajkot. He had not demanded a ticket to contest the election. The BJP leaders allotted him a ticket after deep survey in as many as 150 villages of this area by organizing Bharatbhai’s late father Vashrambhai Khorani’s death anniversary programmes. The support that the party received in Shraddhanjali gatherings was amazing. Therefore the party leaders decided to select popular father’s son as candidate. Bharatbhai’s father Vashrambhai won the Chotila by-election last year, but he couldn’t attend even his maiden session in Gujarat assembly as he died due to heart attack. Before Vashrambhai, another sitting MLA of Chotila Shri Popatbhai Jinjariya of Congress died in middle of his term.

Koli community dominated Chotila assembly seat is traditionally a Congress bastion. However BJP has won last two elections continuously with comfortable margin.

State BJP leaders including Bharat Rupani and Raju Dhruv from Rajkot, Varshaben Doshi from Surendranagar, Kiritsinh Rana and Ramanbhai Vora, the ministers were present during the victory procession of Bharatbhai Khorani in Sayla. The party workers were jubilant and the voices of Dhol beats were in the air.
