Exploring Gujarat in your car will be even more enjoyable in all directions across the state in coming years, as some important highways connecting major destinations are in process to be wider, safer and faster.
Ahmedabad-Pipali-Dholera 110 km highway will be developed as Express highway. This would be the first state express highway project, as the other highway projects implemented so far in the state were central government projects.
The present highway that connects Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar passes through Bagodara. It would be made four lane soon. The highway that connects Bhavnagar with Vadodara through Bagodara-Tarapur-Vataman Chokdi and Sanand will be converted into a six lane highway under public private partnership project.
The Bhavnagar-Rajkot highway has been mentioned in the plan by state government’s Road and Building department.
It should be mentioned that before 90s, the state of Gujarat witnessed poor infrastructure of highway. Fatal accident on Limbdi-Chotila highway was almost a daily news in the newspapers. However during the BJP government regime, the highway connecting Ahmedabad and Rajkot was broadened and made safe. Now the daily accidents have become past. Driving from Ahmedabad to Rajkot has become very safe.
Same way under NDA government’s Swarna Chaturbhuj Yojna, the Ahmedabad-Vadodara express way was completed on fast-track bases. Today, traveling between Ahmedabad-Nadiyad-Anand and Vadodara has become much easier. Same is the story about Vadodara-Halol or Vadodara-Surat, Ahmedabad-Shamlaji or Ahmedabad-Palanpur highways. It was just Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar highway which was neglected for long till now. Loliya deep on Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar highway is still a curse, where every fortnight we hear about some accident. Now when the government has taken up this project, it’s indeed a good news.
We expect that in future the Ahmedabad-Somnath and Ahmedabad-Dwarka highways will also be converted into 4 or 6 lane from this end to that end. The National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) is already in process to lay out a new four lane highway connecting Jetpur and Somnath. The land acquisition process is on. Another major highway connecting Ahmedabad and Bhuj through Sanand, Viramgam, Dhangadhra, Halvad and Samkhiyali is in process to be converted into four/six lane. Recently the central government has approved Four/six lane work of the highway connecting Ahmedabad-Godhra-Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Thus driving which is already pleasure on the highways of Gujarat will be even more enjoyable in coming years in all directions.
