Big B effect: Sonia Gandhi skips Jalianwala event
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 7 April, 2010
Gujarat Tourism Brand Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan’s presence in audio prompted the cancellation of Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Amritsar for a function to mark the Jallianwala Bagh massacre’s anniversary, says a report: ‘Bachchan baritone scares Congress President away’, published in DNA daily.
A report by DNA correspondent Ajay Bhardwaj from Chandigarh says: “Sonia Gandhi was to address a public meeting after launching the sound and light show at Jallianwala Bagh on April 13 to mark the 91st anniversary of the massacre. However, the fact that Amitabh Bachchan has lent his voice to the 30-minute sound and light programme sparked a controversy in Punjab Congress. Bachchan narrates the entire sequence of the historic event in the programme.”
“Sonia canceled the programme after every detail of her visit had been finalized,” the report says quoting a former cabinet minister.
