AMTS workers stay away from duty, buses stopped running
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 13 April, 2010

Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service(AMTS)’s about 300 workers suddenly stayed away from duty on Tuesday and halted local passenger bus transportation service in second shift(2 to 5pm). Many buses couldn’t be operated and major bus-stations such as Paldi, Lal Darwaja etc were jammed with the buses during the afternoon.
AMTS union leaders said they were not on strike but were absent on duty just to attend court case challenging the AMTS authority for not making them permanent in job as per the rule.
Local rickshaws hiked passenger fair taking benefit of the situation.
