“Modiji, why these days IPL is discussed more than BPL(below poverty line)? I am from BPL class and I am sorry to say that the government schemes meant for BPL people don’t reach to us due to corruption in government machinery. Sir please do something to stop this corruption,” a gold medalist South Gujarat university student today told Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi during the event where the Chief Minister interacted with about 200 Gold Medalist students from across the state.

Chief Minister Modi didn’t answer this student immediately, but in his speech at the end of the event, Gujarat Chief Minister said,”in Gujarat we have BPL people who keep Mobile phone. Some time back when I was in one of the poor welfare fair organized by the state government, I called on stage a group of snake charmers on stage to distribute them deeds of their new homes. I observed that each of the ten people in that group had mobile phone in hand.”

Modi in his speech said, “problems are there, and therefore I am spending lots of time to solve them. Otherwise I could party like others. After all who is going to become Chief Minister again and again? But Instead of enjoying the days of Chief Ministership, I work hard because there are issues to be addressed.Perhaps my all hard work would be enjoyed by whoever the Chief Minister after me.”

During Chief Minister’s interaction, one teacher complained that how the government can expect a teacher to teach values to a child when that teacher is paid merely Rs 2500 per month? Another participant, a gold medalist student from Somnath Sanskrit university gave suggestion that the government should employ a particular district’s teacher in same district, becauae different pronunciations create trouble for students. When Sabarkatha district’s teacher is employed in Bhavnagar district he would say ‘Bokdo(goat)’ instead of ‘Baakdo(bench)’. This would confuse the students.

“Prior to freedom people would not allow government to do the things, because it was English government. But after independence, the approach reversed. People started expecting everything from government side. Actually, government should be involved in least tasks. The power of the society should be supreme.”

Modi gave Gandhiji and Vinoba’s examples to support his stand.
