Farmers rally protesting centre’s anti-farmer cotton export ban
Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 13 May, 2010
Gujarat farmers rallied on the roads of Ahmedabad protesting against central government’s ban on export of cotton and provision of export duty of Rs 2500 per tonne.
According to Bharatiya Kisan Sangh’s Gandhinagar district Secretary Shri Gabhubhai Patel, the Central government decision to ban cotton export is anti-farmer one. On one side, centre declares Rs 71000 crore package for elimination of farmers debt and on other side it takes decision that would further drag farmers to vicious net of debt. The central govt has banned export of cotton for some 3000 textile barons, but on the other side lakhs of farmers are impacted negatively. Farmers are getting lesser price of Cotton due to centre’s decision, and prices are set to go south further for sure if centre sticks to its anti-farmer policy.
Farmer leader Maganbhai Patel said, if the centre wants to continue the export ban on cotton, the farmers will start agitation in all districts of Gujarat from 25th of May.
