Group floated to highlight misuse of CBI in Gujarat
Rajkot, 21 May, 2010
A group of people from different walks of life has come together to float a non-political body to highlight what they called the misuse of CBI in Gujarat by the Congress-led UPA Government.
Gujarat Asmitha Manch (GAM) has criticised the UPA Government for misusing CBI in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case and trying to destabilise the Narendra Modi-led BJP Government in the state.
City-based criminal lawyer Abhay Bhardwaj has been appointed Convenor of the Manch. GAM will organise agitational programmes across the state to highlight CBI’s actions in the Sohrabuddin case.
Besides, a public interest litigation (PIL) would be soon filed in the Supreme Court over some constitutional issues related to CBI’s action in Gujarat, Bhardwaj said.
The Constitution has given some rights and power to states. No one has power to go against the constitution. However, this provision has been ignored in the case of Gujarat, he said.
The Supreme Court left the Batla House encounter case to the Delhi Government. Why the same was not done in Gujarat? He asked.
The GAM will launch agitation programems and public awareness and signature campaigns on CBI’s activities, Bhardwaj said.
