Most of the people in Idar confined to their houses. The roads in Idar were deserted like there was curfew.
People complained that ceiling fans were not enough to keep them cool. Markets remained partially closed in the afternoon.
For last two days, small north Gujarat town Idar has come up as the hottest place in the country. On Thursday the temperature crossed 47.5 degree in Idar.
Temperatures in Deesa of Banaskantha on Friday soared to a new high of 47.3 degree Celsius. The entire state sizzled as mercury remained over 45 degree Celsius in major parts. Ahmedabad recorded 46.8 degree Celsius, Bhuj 46, Gandhinagar 46, Vallabh Vidhya Nagar 46.6, Vadodara 45.2, Rajkot 45.5 and Bhavnagar 43.8 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological department has declared severe heat-wave situation in Gujarat. The department has advised people to step out of their home only if necessary. According to the department, the heatwave conditions will prevail for next two-three days all across Gujarat and central India due to northwesterly winds blowing from dry regions. It was, however, expected that after cyclone ‘Laila’ recedes, there could be change in wind direction which could lead to drop in temperatures.
