Modi-Syed Hamida spat in Plan panel meet, says report
New Delhi, 21 May, 2010
A very interesting Indian Express report by priyadarshi siddhanta:
Chief Minister Narendra Modi who was in Delhi yesterday to meet Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia for finalization of the annual plan for Gujarat, raised the question if it was proper for Plan panel member Syeda Hameed to join some Muslim residents in Juhapura, Ahmedabad who were protesting what they called discriminatory state policies.
On this issue, Modi-Hameed spat sparked off and became loud in the meeting. Hameed raised the issue of Muslim children being denied education in Juhapura, claiming there was no school there.
Armed with data, Modi told the Plan panel that there were six schools in the locality. Plus he questioned the very presence there of Hameed, asking Ahluwalia to explain how a Plan panel member could be part of a public protest.
