Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 27 May, 2010

A Hindu sweeper Ghanshyambhai Chauhan was attacked in Ahmedabad’s Muslim dominated Kalupur area on Thursday morning. Ghanshyambhai was going to attend his duty near Patwa sheri on Relief road area. He was stabbed using sharp weapon. His condition was serious according to primary details available. This incident shows that three-day old Shahpur attacks have now stepped outside this area and spread further to Kalupur also.

Kalupur is one of the areas in Ahmedabad’s wall city zone where Hindus are in minority, thanks to migration after years of frequent attacks and cornering.

Injured sweeper has been admitted to VS hospital.

In 2002 riots, when Muslims started attacking Hindu sweeper in early mornings, all sweepers employed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation went on strike in Muslim dominated area. Sweepers are in same mood this time.
