Widespread rainfall predicted on Gujarat coast 3 June onwards

Amitabh Bachchan would bring tourists to Gujarat in the later part of this year, when Gujarat Tourism ads anchored by him as brand ambassador will be on air, but as of now it seems, Amitabh Bachchan is all set to bring showers to coastal Gujarat. While Bachchan is scheduled to shoot at Shri Somnath Mandir on 4th of June, the Indian Meteorological department has predicted, “widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over coastal areas of Gujarat from 3rd June 2010 and increase thereafter.”

The IMD bulletin on Tuesday, 1st June states: “The deep depression over westcentral & adjoining eastcentral Arabian Sea remained practically stationary, intensified into a cyclonic storm, ‘PHET’ and lay centred at 1430 hrs IST of today, the 01st June 2010 near latitude 16.00N and long. 63.00E, about 1100 km west-southwest of Mumbai, 1030 km southwest of Naliya (Kutch, Gujarat) and 1100 km south-southwest of Karachi.”

“The current environmental condition and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models suggest that the system would intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm and move slowly in a north-northwesterly/northerly direction for next 24 hours and then recurve northeastwards towards Gujarat & adjoining Pakistan coast.”

“Under the influence of this system, fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls would commence over coastal areas of Gujarat from 3rd June 2010 and increase thereafter. Squally winds with speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting 75 kmph would commence along and off Gujarat coast from 2nd June 2010 and increase gradually.”

“Sea condition will be very rough along and off Gujarat coast from 2nd June 2010. Fishermen are advised not venture into the sea.”
