Ahmedabad's English obsessed Sahajanand college ransacked

Ahmedabad’s Kalupur Swaminarayan sect run Sahajanand college Principal office was ransacked today by student activists protesting college’s decision not to give admission to any student who is from Gujarati medium school. The college wants to admit only those students who have studied only in English medium school throughout.

Student activists today ransacked Principal office, broke the glass of the office and threw furniture. Some students pelted stones over the college from outside. Even the road was blocked by angry students and parents. Police detained 10 student activists in this regard.

For last three days, hundreds of students are questioning, Swaminarayan sect(that talks about promoting culture) run college’s obsession with English medium schooling. The college has not responded even after three-day protest.

Students say, such mentality of college would discourage students to study in Gujarati school. This is anti-Gujarati attitude.

Swaminarayan sect’s strange service to culture!

A school run by Swaminarayan Gurukul (SGVP Chharodi) has banned using Gujarati language for the students here. There are signboards in school campus that instruct students to talk only English. The students caught speaking Gujarati are punished. Though running many other appreciable activities including Sanskrit pathshala, the obsession of English is not absent here.

Moditva is not always good

For last some years, Gujarat is in grip of Moditva. And Moditva is not always good. Mr. Modi and his government endorse education in English medium. Perhaps this is due to Mr. Modi’s personal incapability of speaking good English, that he wants other to study in English medium. While in Maharashtra, even for English medium children, it is mandatory to study the subject of Marathi, during their schooling, Mr. Modi doesn’t show equal love towards Gujarati language in Gujarat. Here, even Gujarati family’s children don’t know how to write or read Gujarati properly! When it comes to Gujarat’s pride, Mr. Modi stands on forefront, but when it is about feeling proud for Gujarati language, Mr. Modi is almost mum.
