IIMA’s fresh batch has more than 50% reservation quota students

IIM Ahmedabad’s flagship Post graduate Programme(PGP)’s latest batch has more than 50% reserved category students. PGP batch’s only 49.73% students have entered the institution on pure merit, in open category. The reserved students come from Scheduled Cast, Scheduled Tribe, Physically challenged quotas. PGP’s latest batch has 10.23% ladies. 60% students in latest batch have field experience.

Talking to reported in Ahmedabad on Thursday, IIMA Director Samir Barua said, the IIMA is building new 350-room hostel to accommodate extra burden of students, thanks to reservation. The building’s design will have fusion of both modern and IIMA’s identity-like-classic-look. The building will be built at a cost of around Rs 50 crore and it will be ready within a year.

Director Barusa announced 11 new Management Development Programmes and six new elective courses for PGP students. Among 11 new MDP course, one is about Sports Management. This one-week programme’s fee is Rs 80,000.

IIM Ahmedabad is mentoring proposed Udaipur IIM. Director Barua said that a land has been identified and name of the Chairman of the board has been decided for IIM Udaipur which is likely to function within next two years.

IIM Ahmedabad’s Golden Jubilee celebration will kick start from December-2010. Director Barua said that the celebration will include a grand-alumni meet. He said the institute will be putting case studies online in public domain soon.

While answering the questions about IIMA’s corpus, Director Barua said, thanks to 6th pay commission’s burden, the IIMA incurred loss of about 6 crore each in last two years. The corpus has come down from 51 crore to about 40 crore. However after hike in fees and good amount of consulting activities – thanks to better economic situation – the scenario is improving this year.
