Gujarat Police have banned wearing of waist belt in Shri Somnath mandir in view of latest Intelligence Bureau inputs and general security precaution.
As the latest order banning wearing of waist belt in Shri Somnath mandir campus is already effective starting from this week, the visitors are asked to remove their belt at the main campus gate(Shri Digvijaya dwar) and keep it in clock room opposite the mandir. Particulars such as purse, any sort of camera, battery, mobile phone, shoes, radio, purse, baggage etc are already banned inside the campus.
According to district police sources, there was a fresh IB input about possible Islamic terror threat to Shri Somnath mandir. Even one belt can hold explosive of 0.8 kg. and citing this, allowing people with belt on their waist was not advisable and therefore the new rule was implemented according to the police.
