Gujarat University VC attacked, colleges to observe strike

A group of student activists from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) attacked Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi inside his house on Wednesday evening. The students were demanding University’s action on price hike and Post Graduate management quota issues.

According to Trivedi, a group of protesting students rushed to Vice Chancellor’s official bungalow just behind the University campus, and attacked him amidst rampant use of offending words.

Trivedi showed his torn shirt and bruise on his chest to media persons and said, “I had guests in my house and my family was also inside. They beat security guards and rushed in. They hold my legs and then started one-to-one fight with me. This went on for five to seven minutes. Thankfully, the police arrived on time and took the control of the situation. Such behavior of student leaders is not tolerable. They should be severely punished for their act. They can have problems and questions, but this is not proper method to put demands.”

Trivedi said he talked to Ahmedabad Police Commissioner and state police Chief soon after the attack, and demanded security.

According to sources, the Police have arrested 16 students in this connection. Some colleges of Ahmedabad have taken a decision to observe strike on Thursday against attack on Vice Chancellor. Gujarat University officers union will stage dharna against the attack on Vice Chancellor at 11.00 am on Thursday.
