For this girl, Garib Kalyan Mela proved actually a Kalyan Mela
Junagadh, 12 July 2010

Garib Kalyan Mela of Keshod in Junagadh district of Gujarat proved fruitful for a girl from lower income family living here.

Rinaben Vala, an eight standard girl had to leave here education due to shortage of money.

When she heard about Garib Kalyan Mela, she sat in audience and soon she grabbed a chance to meet state Health and Tourism minister Jaynarayan Vyas on the stage itself. Rina told the minister about her family’s inability to fund her education beyond standard eight. She told the minister that her father earns just Rs 100 a day through daily labor and that too irregularly which is just not enough to fund her education.

The minister sympathized with Rinaben and immediately asked local BJP MLA Vandanaben Makwana to adopt this girl upto her graduation and bear all expenses of her education from now onwards. Local MLA too agreed to this proposal.

DeshGujarat’s view

This is an eye opening incident. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi takes lakhs of rupees donation for girl child education fund on behalf of his attendance in industrial functions. However this incident shows the situation on ground is very grim. Today in the era of privatization and industrialization of education, a poor of lower economic class students can’t dream of his choice of education. What actually Mr. Modi does with his Kanya Kelavani Fund is an interesting question that should be answered.

Do you remember, how Gujarat University Vice Chancellor was attacked by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activisits some days back for his desicion to allow granted colleges to run self finance classes? Now ABVP is silent, but the decision of the VC is still in practice. Such decision will ruin any scope of getting education for poor or lower economic class students.
