Abdul Wahab held in Ahmedabad for 1997 Sagirkhan murder

The Ahmedabad police crime branch on Monday evening arrested former Latif aide Abdul Wahab on for his alleged involvement in 1997 Sagir Khan murder case.

In view of present situation, where through CBI, the central govt is targetting Chief Minister Narendra Modi, this latest development of Abdul Wahab’s arrest is important, because 1997 Sagir Khan murder had political angle too. Sagir Khan was General Secretary of then ruling Rashtriya Janata Party(RJP) and RJP supremo Shankarsinh Vaghela was Chief Minister at that time.

Sagir Khan’s murder had invited encounter of Ahmedabad’s DON Abdul Latif. Latif was taken out of the jail in dark and encountered in Naroda area by police team soon after Sagir Khan’s murder which was believed to be performed by Abdul Latif gang for not paying extortion.

Abdul Wahab was in jail for many years, but released last year

According to crime branch officials, they were investigating the Sagir Ahmed murder case when they came to know that one of the main accused Mohammed Siddiq, known as Ghanti, a former Latif aide had returned to Ahmedabad. He was nabbed near Roopalee Cinema on Friday. Siddiq was wanted in two cases and was absconding since 1999.

“Ahmed was shot dead by Ghanti. He told investigators during questioning that Wahab was behind the killing and was one of the main conspirators. Wahab was arrested on Monday to get more details in the case,” said Himanshu Shukla, deputy commissioner of police, crime branch.

Police sources said Sagir was allegedly killed in a power struggle between rival factions in the city in 1997. At that time Wahab was in jail. Cops added that soon after Sagir’s murder, Latif too was killed in a police encounter.

Police officials said they want to make sure the Latif faction was not regrouping, given that Wahab was already out of jail and Ghanti had just returned to the city after staying away for nearly a decade.
