Sweepers cleaning the water in the afternoon of Sunday

Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel international airport got its new international building last month on 4th July, when central minister of Civil Aviation Praful Patel inaugurated it in presence of three Union minister and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The new airport terminal is scheduled to be operated from 15th of August. But look what happened on Sunday.

As if the Commonwealth stadium’s leaking roof was not enough, Ahmedabad’s this new Rs 316 crore swanky international terminal has got the ditto problem.

The city of Ahmedabad received average 10 inch rain on Saturday night, the new international airport terminal building’s roof started leaking and there was water water and water everywhere on floor inside the new building.

From Saturday night to Sunday evening, the works to wash the floor was continuously on, inside the new building, which will be in operation from next week.

It should be mentioned here that the new airport terminal building is ready two and half year late. Once in operation, this new building will invite User Development Charge of Rs 415 for international airlines passenger. It is shameful that within a month of its inauguration, and before its actual formal launch, its roof is leaking heavily.

While higher officials of the Airport were busy dealing with existing international terminal’s water logging problems, we could talk with one executive level person who was supervising the cleaning work. When asked about water leakage, he replied that before launching the structure on 15th of August, there was some last-time repair work going on for which the partially transparent roof parts were dismantled, and due to sudden rain, the water came from that gap inside the building. However a person could not exactly show us those gaps. After seeing the roof in detail, even amid resistance of security men, we could conclude that this structure has seriously some problem of water leakage from roof, which should be thoroughly checked and sorted out.
