Vadodara Police form rigorously trained Special Combat Unit (SCU)

Vadodara Police has trained 50 personnel to tackle terrorists and criminals at the time of emergencies through a Special Combat Unit (SCU).
The special unit has been trained by prominent martial arts instructor Donald Melville, who has been trained by Emin Bozetepi who provides training to Federal Bureau of Investigations ( FBI) and Sifu Salih Avci, president of Wing Tsun Escrima Organisation, Germany.
“A unit has been set up looking at the kind of problems we will face in next 15 to 20 years. Such a combat unit which can give first response in the time of emergencies. 250 personnel from the force were first trained, 50 of them have now been finally selected for specialised training,” city police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana told mediapersons on Saturday, adding that while
“The next lot will be of 100 personnel, who will be also trained rigorously to handle all kinds of automatic and semi-automatic weapons along with training in Wing Tsun, which enables them to handle miscreants even in crowded areas. This squad is being trained to tackle miscreants without any weapon,” said Asthaana, adding that the second phase will include training women cops for the unit.
