Maldhari youths create ruckus at Rajkot Radio Mirchi office
Rajkot, 13 November, 2010
About a dozen youths of cattle keeper community(Rabari,Bharwad communities jointly known as Maldharis) created ruckus at Rajkot’s Radio Mirchi office on Saturday.
The youths from Maldhari community arrived on vehicles and vandalized the office alleging that one of the Radio Jockeys had used offending words for stray cows and cattle keeper community.
One Ranjit Mundhva who was leading the group told media persons that for last some day, the radio channel had started campaign against stray cows and the cattle keeping community responsible for that.
Mudhva said, the radio jockey and the radio channel must apologize for this, otherwise they would continue to face anger of Maldhari community.
“We are not ready to tolerate the insult of holy cow and our community that keeps and protects the cows,” he added.
It should be noted that Rajkot Municipal Commissioner Mr. Brahmbhatt had issued a notification early this week stating that any stray cow captured by the civic authority now onwards will not be released even after fine is paid. Civic authority has started capturing stray cows in mission mode, and has sent about fifty cows in two days to Chhapariyali Panjarapol. The radio channel was supporting this movement between the shows, but the Maldhari leaders say, the channel crossed its limit and started naming a community which was offending.
