One arrested in Vadodara’s Bin Laden poster display case
Vadodara, 12 December, 2010

A rickshaw driver Ramiz Kamruddin Sheikh was arrested yesterday in Vadodara for involvement in year 2007 Bin Laden posters case.
On 25th May 2007, a group of Muslims had openly and fearlessly demonstrated Al Qaida chief Osama bin Laden’s posters in public on busy road outside the Friday mosque near Mandvi gate. Ramiz was one of the participants in this demonstration. Police has CD and digital video cassette of this demonstration, through which Ramiz Kamruddin Sheikh was identified according to sources.
When demonstration of Osama bin Laden’s posters was going on, some lower rank policemen were present. However they couldn’t do much as they were too few and were surrounded by aggressive group of fanatics. Moreover they were not ordered to behave in strict manner with the fanatics who could easily sparked violence. Add to this, the poster display act was sudden and had went on for just few moments.
Though police had arrested some of the persons involved in this act in those days, most of those in crowd stayed at large.
After more than a year in 2008, Vadodara police had started reinvestigating this case in the wake of post Ahmedabad bomb blasts situation. It should be mentioned here that one Usman Agarbattiwala, accused of Ahmedabads serial blast was found also involved in Bin Laden posters displaying act.
