A laborer with Pakistan call records nabbed at Kutch border
Bhuj, 5 February, 2011

A laborer working near Indo-Pak border of Kutch has been nabbed for carrying mobile phone in restricted border area and dialing several calls to Pakistan.
According to available detail from sources Central government’s construction arm Central Public Works Department(CPWD) is constructing fence, roads and posts for Border Security Force near international border between India and Pakistan in district Kutch of Gujarat. CPWD has hired laborers for this task.
On 3 February, one Mukim Nurmamad Sama, a labor from Kutch’s Mota Dinara village went to restricted border area site with his mobile phone.
As per the rule, Mukim had to deposit his mobile phone at India bridge post, before entering the restricted area. But he didn’t do that.
In the evening, when he returned from the border area duty, one BSF cop checked him and found mobile phone in his possession. He imidiately confiscated the phone and handed it over to higher officials for further check. The officials were shocked to see that several phone numbers of Pakistan were saved in Mukim’s mobile phone. Not only this, some Pakistani phone numbers were dialed actually and lots of talk had happened.
In prompt action, the security forces started procedure to nab Mukim. However he couldn’t be traced.
Next day on 4th of February, Mukim surrendered himself before Khavda post of BSF. He was later handed over to Khavda police from where he was taken to Special Operation Group for further investigation.
According to primary investigation, Mukim has confessed that he carried the phone and talked across the border. Mukim had visited Pakistan in past and according to him his relatives stay there.
In past two laborers working for border road construction had crossed the border and fled to Pakistan.
Danger of Pakistani mobile signals in Kutch
Pakistan’s telephone companies are freely throwing their signals in Gujarat’s Kutch. This means if a person – possibly a spy working for Pakistan staying in Kutch – once obtains a sim card of Pakistani mobile operator, he can talk to Pakistani counterpart using that sim card, bypassing India’s intelligence agencies.
Now read how this can work. Imagine a man spying for Pakistan from Kutch wants to pass some secret message or information to Pakistan. If he use Indian service provider’s phone service to call Pakistan, there is a danger of India’s intelligence agencies check.
But is he use Pakistani telephone service, he can freely talk with Pakistani counterpart without worrying about any possibility of Indian intelligence agency’s intervention. All a spy needs is Pakistani Telephone Company’s sim card. In Kutch’s case it is Telenor.
Any Pakistani visiting India with Telenor’s sim card can pass on such a sim card to desired spy in Kutch through their network. Once Kutch based spy obtain Pakistani sim card he can use it freely to call Pakistan based secret agencies. Pakistan based secret agencies can then take care of regular renewal of that sim card.
It should be noted that according to the rules that are existing, this is clear violation by Pakistani Telephone Company because at both sides of international border some distance is banned for mobile telephone operation’s signals.
And not only Cell phone signals, Pakistan also air it’s Islamic preaching FM radio signals to Kutch too. One can be shocked listening to the hardcore Islamic preaching over Pakistani FM radio in parts of Kutch. Kashmir related programs are also aired on such FM radio service.
Pakistani TV can be easily watched in Kutchi villages. Sometime signals of Pakistani TV are even more powerful than freely air Indian telecast. This happens in case of one having a normal TV antenna. However cable TV and DTH subscribers are free from Pakistani TV’s telecast.
