Porbandar-Rajkot journey at half the cost possible from Friday

If you want to travel between Rajkot and Porbandar, any private bus would charge you at least Rs. 130 for a single ticket. If you choose the State Transport bus, in that case it would charge you Rs. 100 for same journey. Traveling by car would be ofcourse costlier as one liter patrol costs more than Rs. 60.

Option of journey through air, or rail is not available at present, but the situation is changing this Friday.

Thanks to completion of Jetalsar-Vansjaliya railway line conversion work, a new train between Rajkot and Porbandar will start functioning from this Friday, and journey between Rajkot and Porbandar will be available at ticket cost of Rs. 52.

So the journey would be not only safer and more comfortable but cheaper too.

According to sources, the Porbandar-Jetalsar-Rajkot train will be flagged off this Friday morning at 11.00 am from Rajkot possibly by central minister of state for Railway and Gujarat MP Shri Bharat Solanki. The train will reach Porbandar at 1.20 pm.

The 11-bogie train no. 19571 will have one Chair car coach. It will be in operation three days a week on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. It will leave Rajkot at 7.20 am and reach Porbandar at 12.05 pm. On return journey, it will leave Porbandar at 2.30 pm and reach Rajkot at 6.50 pm. During its four hour journey the train will stop at Jamjodhpur, Upleta, Dhoraji, Jetalsar, Virpur, Gondal and Bhaktinagar.

One negative aspect of this train is about its lesser frequency and odd timings that would continue to compel people to travel in buses. Another is exclusion of Jetpur as stoppage. One more concern is about pass holders who are all set to fill the entire train for ‘up-down’ purpose. Perhaps in that aspect, the odd timings(that are not suitable for updown) are good.
