Gir sanctuary closed for visitors for four months
Junagadh, 17 June, 2011

Gujarat’s Gir Asiatic Lion sanctuary was closed on Thursday for visitors for four-month-long matting period of lions. The sanctuary will reopen for visitors on 15 October. This is routine calendar that the forest department follow every year to create undisturbed environment for lions as per the 1972 wild life act. Also due to rains, Unpaved roads inside the forest no more remain motorable which is another reason to shut down the sanctuary gates for the visitors.
According to forest officer Sandipkumar, Devaliya safari park of lions will continue to remain open during monsoon.
