A picnic turned tragic when five college students from Ahmedabad drowned in sea near Somnath mandir on Sunday morning.
A group of five students from Ahmedabad’s NavGujarat, H.K. and Asia colleges had gone for a tour to Somnath. Oblivious of the high tide, they ventured quite far into the sea — when a powerful wave struck and dragged them in.
Locals saved 4 lives, but could not rescue one of them Arvind Makwana from Ahmedabad’s H.K.College. Locals say Somnath beach is considered dangerous when the tide is high. Bathing is prohibited in the region, say police.
