Mumbai, 8 December 2011

These two young girls(in photo above) Disha Shailesh Shah(23)and Jayna Shailesh Shah(19) will become Jain sadhvi(Jain lady nun) this Sunday in Mumbai.

Becoming a Jain monk is tough task physically as per the general perception. Jain monk can’t use vehicle, she needs to walk barefoot, she needs to uproot her hairs once in every six months, she can’t use electricity, she needs to eat simple things which are mixed together, she can’t stay at one place for long, she can dress white un-stiched cloths only, she needs to spend her life in studying and preaching the dharma.

But even amid bombarding of all worldly things and attractions in mayanagari Mumbai, these two girls are all set to end their routine life and are going to get new names.

Daughter of Shaileshkumar Ramanlal Shah and Ashaben Shaileshkumar Shah, 23-year old Disha is graduate while Jayna(19) has completed 12th.

While Disha wanted to become Jain lady monk since childhood, Jayna developed strong wish to take diksha when she entered in junior college.

“Jain mandir(derasar) and upashraya(where Jain monks stay) were located just next to our place, and even at home we had a religious atmosphere,” said Disha.

She added, “by attending regular discources of Jain monks, I wished to take diksha, however I wanted to get permission of my parents first, however in the meantime my mother’s sister also became Jain Sadhvi by taking diksha which boosted my determination and generated soem support for my wish.”

Disha further said, “when I proposed to take diksha before my parents, they were initially not ready, but after realizing my strong determination, they too permitted me. With me my sister also wanted to take diksha with same determination, and our parents agreed at last for both of us.”

Disha and Jayna’s father Shaileshkumar runs provision store in Mumbai. He said he was reluctunt initially to allow both daughters to become Jain sadhvi, but both girls were so firm in their decision that he just couldn’t deny.
