Surat, 12 August 2012
Thanks to heavy inflow from catchment areas in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, the level of water in south Gujarat’s Ukai dam is approaching rule level of 333.63 ft. As per the rule book, 333.63 ft level is advisable to maintain. On Saturday evening the level was 332.60 ft. While rule level is just one ft shorter than allowed limit, the decision of the govt on possible release of water has to be watched out. While Hathnur dam is still releasing as much as 50,000 cusec water, the level of water is likely to match the rule level soon. It has to be seen, whether the govt releases the water or continue to allow rise in water level in view of poor monsoon. At present, concerned authority is keeping continuous watch over the rains and release of water in neighboring state.
Update:
18 gates of Ukai dam are opened to release water
