Narendra Modi dedicates Sabarmati river front walkway to India, takes dig at Congress’s ad campaign(Video)

Ahmedabad, 15 August 2012

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated the Sabarmati river front project’s walkway in Ahmedabad.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Modi said that while location of this dedicating ceremony is Ahmedabad, the walkway is dedicated to India, because it is the first such project initiated in entire India.

Shri Modi appealed the citizens to maintain cleanliness and use the new location in disciplined manner. He gave example of Kankaria lake front where following his appeal, in last five years, not a single public facility has faced damage. Modi asked people to keep Sabarmati river front more clean than own house.

Attacking the Congress party, Shri Modi said, “Congress did everything to halt this project. They didn’t leave a single opportunity to halt the project. They not only misused media, but also went to the courts dozens of times to get stay. We gave flats to slum people and received HUDCO award from Congress ruled centre, and here the local Congress men were questioning the quality of flats. You need to know the character of this Congress party. Why this nation has poverty? The root cause is Congress’s poor mentality.”

In his speech Shri Modi took a dig at Gujarat Congress’s ongoing TV advertisement campaign in which poor people are shown complaining on basic issues.

Shri Modi said, “Gujarat Congress’s entire TV ad campaign is contrary to what Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today in his speech. While PM in his speech said that factories should come, development should take place, power should be generated, the Gujarat Congress ad says that we don’t want road, we don’t want factories, it we get half a piece of bread it’s OK.”

“Friends, this Congress wants to take you to the 18th century, do you want to go(along with them)?”

“Such a poor mentality is exhibited in their TV ads that they don’t want road, factory, power, colleges, universities, just give half a piece of bread, it’s fine…They have given this only in last 60 years.”

“I congratulate the incharge of Congress ad campaign, that (he) showed (Gujarat Congress’s) reality, that Congress can’t think beyond this,” Modi said.

Modi reminded people that Congress didn’t keep promise of reverse in price rise within 100 days of power.
