Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi today attacked rival Congress party for “the lies being propagated” in Congress campaign. Addressing three rallies in Saurashtra region today, Shri Modi “exposed” Congress’s “lies” on the situation of farmers, commercialization of education and policy on gauchar land. Following portions are taken from Modi’s speech at Somnath and Mahuva today.
“I challenge the Congress friends on this land of Somnath. The Congress men are liars. I want to share some details about Congress-ruled states, and I have selected the states where Congress is in power for last ten years.”
“Congress leaders allege that engineering and medical education has become costlier. When I came to power there were 13000 engineering seats, and getting admission beyond some limit was impossible. So Gujarat’s sons and daughters were sent to Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu for education. Donation worth Rs 20 lakh was paid, and parents were worried about their children. Every years 100s of crores of Rupees of Gujarat were flushed outside the state.”
“We decided that Gujarat’s money would not be allowed to go outside. We decided that people of Gujarat should be rescued from such donation rates. And today we can proudly say that there are 90,000 seats in the state compare to 13,000 in past.”
“Congress people allege commercialization of higher education. Now I want their reply. Maharashtra is bigger than Gujarat in size. It has big cities like Mumbai and Pune. But how many government engineering colleges are there? There are only seven engineering colleges. All other colleges are private, and most of them are owned by Congress politicians there. Andhra has ten government colleges, Rajasthan has ten government colleges, while Gujarat has 19 government colleges, and this is the real situation amid Congress party’s lies.”
“Another issue, our media friends should check on internet. While govt engineering college fre in Maharahstra is 25000, Rajasthan 42000 and Haryana 40,000, it is only Rs 1500 in Gujarat. And for girls its totally free, for Dalits its totally free, for tribal its totally free, and there’s concession for OBCs.”
“This is an example of Congress party’s lies, and their tactics to defame Gujarat. And please check on internet that who are those who take money from the students, who are private college owners. Most of them are Congress party’s big leaders. We just don’t want Congress style of commercialization of education in Gujarat.”
Speaking against Congress party’s allegations on the situation of farmers in Saurashtra, the Chief Ministers in his speech attacked Congress-ruled UPA government’s ban on cotton export. On the issue of Gauchar land, Shri Modi said that South Gujarat had finest land suitable to grow fodder, and during the years of famine, south Gujarat used to supply fodder to Saurashtra and Kutch, but the past Congress governments allotted the land in such a green region to industries.
