Ahmedabad, 27 December 2012

During his first visit after winning the Gujarat elections 2012, Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi called on Shri LK Advani, Shri Murli Manohar Joshi, smt Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari.

Shri Modi visited Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and inquired about his health.

At BJP headquarters, Shri Modi received rousing welcome in carnival like atmosphere. Thousands of party workers were there to welcome Shri Modi under the leadership of Shri Nitin Gadkari. BJP workers kept up a chant of “PM, PM” – voicing their demand that Modi be named the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections.

In his speech, Shri Modi said, “For 12 years, my government has done work… The people of Gujarat have voted in favour of the good work done by my party in the state.”

“It was possible for me – a simple worker – to rise to where I’m today,” he said.

Taking on the Congress-led union government, Modi said despite 65 percent of the country’s population under the age of 35, the government did not have a “plan or political will” to utilise youth power in nation building.

He said it was the hard work and performance of only some states that was driving the country’s growth.

Modi said: I never ever imagined that I would get such a warm reception at the party headquarters at 11 Ashoka Road where I worked for years. It is because of the party that I have reached this position. It’s the power of the democracy that a simple common man has been given so much responsibility. I am your partner and I have come here to give credit to my fellow beings. In a time when governments fall in two-three years, it is our work, work that the BJP has done that has got us re-elected for 12 years.I would request you all to come to Gujarat and see our current governance, if you have any suggestions for improvement, please let me know.As a party worker, I will always welcome your suggestions and will work towards implementing them.

It was for the first time, at least in recent times, that a BJP Chief Minister was given such a reception by the party at its headquarters in Delhi.

Posters and banners, congratulating Modi on his third consecutive victory in the Gujarat Assembly elections had been put up in different parts of the city.
