Gujarat Cabinet gives in-principle approval to formation of 7 new districts, 22 new talukas

Gujarat Cabinet with Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the chair today approved in-principle division and reorganization of seven new districts and 22 new talukas as part of the state’s decentralization of administration for fast and efficient service.

This was in pursuance of the Chief Minister’s earlier announcements for 7 new districts and 20 new talukas in public interest, to which were added two more new talukas.

The decisions were taken for administrative convenience and geographical reasons to save people’s time, energy and money traveling long distances.

Consequently, as per the powers vested on the government under Section-7 of the Mumbai Revenue Act 1987, district collectors of the districts and talukas concerned have been directed to study and create appropriate facilities, looking to the needs of the people in respective areas. The government will also undertake appropriate steps to create necessary infrastructure. The proposed new administrative units are as follows:

Botad from Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad
Chhota Udepur from Vadodara
Mahisagar from Panchmahal and Kheda
Morbi from Rajkot, Surendranagar and Jamnagar
Devbhumi Dwarka from Jamnagar

Lakhni from Deesa, Diyodar and Tharad
Gojharia from Kadi, Mehsana, Vijapur and Visnagar
