Ahmedabad, 22 February 2013
CBI application seeking 14 days’ remand of IPS officer Girish Singhal was rejected today by Special CBI Court. Shri Singhal was arrested yesterday in the alleged fake encounter case of Ishrat Jahan and three others including one Pakistani and one Muslim convert.
The court sent Shri Singhal to judicial custody until March 8. CBI counsel Ejaz Khan had demanded 14 days remand of Shri Singhal.
Judge H S Khutwad observed while there were serious allegations against the police officer and without his presence probe could not have been conducted but the CBI could not produce appropriate grounds for his remand.
